Yetholm Kirk

The church for the delightful twin villages and parish of Yetholm stands on a site in use since David I’s apportionment of parishes.

Built by Robert Brown 1837 to replace a small dank thatched affair, it is a rectangular-plan Gothic church of local whinstone with cream sandstone dressings, and a tower to the south.

A remodelling in 1935, and the creation of an upper room out of the gallery in the 1970s, gives the interior a lightness belied by the sombre imposing exterior. Stained glass by Ballantine & Son, Edinburgh.

The medieval bell is still in use. As the nearest burial ground to Flodden, the graveyard is believed to have interred officers fallen in that battle (1513).
