Melrose - As Melrose Abbey fell into disrepair a new Parish Church was opened on the Weirhill in 1810. It was destroyed by fire in 1908. Only the tower, bearing the date MDCCCX, survived and was incorporated in the present building which was dedicated in 1911.

St Boswells congregation originally worshipped

in a disused barn near the smithy and built the

current St Boswells Parish Church themselves for

around £80, as a Free Church, after the split in

the Church of Scotland in 1843. Originally it

was a plain, almost square building with no

seating and an earth floor.

St Mary’s C of E - Wooler

St Mary’s Church dates from 1764 and was extended in 1913 with the addition of the chancel. The building contains some notable Victorian windows in the nave and some exceptionally fine 20th century stained glass in the sanctuary.

Many items in the church are gifts in memory of particular persons, or events and make for an interesting discovery of social history.

Wooler URC

Wooler URC - The present church building in Cheviot Street was built in 1778, near to an older, much dilapidated structure. In 1886 new stained glass windows, in the style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, were inserted. In 2021 a new Warm Hub was installed creating opportunities for further activities.

St Cuthbert’s Centre - Holy Island

The building has been redeveloped in a way that honours the heritage of the past, whilst providing versatile facilities to meet the needs of many different visitors. The latest work provides the Centre with additional, and improved, toilet facilities; a much more user-friendly stair to the mezzanine area; additional storage for coats, etc.; repairs to the outer doors and new inner doors to keep the heat in for user groups; and much improved the Bothy.
